Vinoo Mankad Trophy is a one-day cricket at a national level tournament which involves teams of the state team from the Ranji Trophy. This tournament/competition in India has a limited number of overs. The men's age group under 19 who have played in the Ranji Trophy are eligible for selection for Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The BCCI organizes this trophy.

In accordance with the matrix of performance the players are selected for the trophy. As a condition of compliance the players who are shortlisted have to pass an Physical Fitness Test. If a player is selected through an Physical Fitness Test, he is permitted to participate in the matches of selection. Overcoming all of these hurdles Yashovardhan Parantap has been selected to play in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2021 for KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) He is a pupil at The Sports School.

A total of 35 teams compete at the 35 teams participating in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The tournament's format is based around Round Robin and playoffs in which every team plays all competing teams one at a time. This makes the competition challenging. Vinoo Mankad Trophy will be held from the 28th of September 2021 and 30th Oct 2021. It's a component of the 2021-2022 Indian national cricket schedule.

A career for Vinoo Mankad

Mankad played as an opener batsman, and slow arm traditional spin was the specialty. He played in 44 test matches for India between 1946 and 1959. His average was 31.47 not counting his centuries during test matches, Mankad made 2109 runs in all. His best score was 231.

Together with Pankaj Roy, Vinoo Mankad together with Pankaj Roy, Vinoo Mankad 413 runs during the India against New Zealand match at Madras in 1956. With this record they set a world record that stood unchallenged throughout 52 consecutive years. In 2008, the record was broken by Neil McKenzie and Graeme Smith who scored 415 runs in an international Test match played in the match between Bangladesh as well as South Africa.

Vinoo became the very first Indian cricketer to record 1,000 runs as well as 100 wickets in a test match. Vinoo had 162 wickets, with an average of 32.32 in only 23 games. It was only the second record in the world by Vinoo. Ian Botham later broke this record in the world. On February 11, 1959 Mankad was the last player to play his game with the West Indies.

Personal Life

Mulvantri Himmatlal Mankad was popular due to his nickname as a schoolboy Vinoo Mankad. Mankad was born on 12th April , 1917 at Jamnagar, Gujrat. The right handed batsman as well as a slow-arm conventional. In matches played in the domestic arena He was a member of various teams as well as in various years. Mankad owned three sons, one of them Rahul Mankad was a player in cricket and played in 15 tests for India as batsman. One of the best all-rounders in cricket that India ever produced died on 21 August 1971, aged 61.

Honors and awards

In 1973, he was honored by the award of Padma Bhushan by GOI which is the third highest civilian distinction in India.

In honor of the legend, a road to the south of Wankhede Stadium is named after the legend. This is an international stadium located in Mumbai.

His statue is located at the place where he was born, Jamnagar Gujrat.
